The successful candidate will:

  • Teach PE and some option classes.
  • Have a solid understanding of the learning dynamics of middle-school students, coupled with the creativity to design lessons that ignite a child’s curiosity and foster exploration, discovery, and personal growth. 
  • Exhibit strong classroom management skills.
  • Be well-versed in literacy and numeracy strategies grounded in evidence-based research.
  • Design, plan, and implement physical education lessons based on the Alberta Curriculum.
  • Develop and implement various physical activities that promote physical fitness, teamwork, and collaboration.
  • Thrive in and contribute to a collaborative school culture.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and an ability to build and nurture positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and our community.
  • Possesses strong assessment skills with proficiency in providing constructive feedback and understanding outcome-based reporting.
  • Understand how to help students develop social and emotional competencies.

Additional desirable skills and experiences include:

  • Proven knowledge and experience working with First Nations, Metis, and Inuit learners.
  • Proficiency in assessment for learning strategies to track and improve student progress.
  • An understanding of trauma-informed practice and experience working with students who have encountered trauma.

Qualifications and Requirements:

To be considered for this role, you should possess the following qualifications:

  • A strong understanding of and the ability to demonstrate the Alberta Education Teaching Quality Standard.
  • A valid Alberta Teaching Certificate.
  • Willingness to provide a current vulnerable sector check before employment begins.
