Goal: To continue to build the poultry program at the school by purchasing heated water warmers for the school turkeys
Description: The school has laying hens, broilers, and turkeys. All of these are cared for by students throughout the year. The eggs are collected, and turkeys/broilers are butchered on-site at different times throughout the year. Students take complete lead and ownership over this program through daily chores, sales, and budgeting with purchasing new birds and feed. The grant money was used to purchase water warmers which in turn gave the birds better access to water through the winter. Students noticed a difference in growth being able to convert more of their food into energy with better water access.
