Building on Alberta's collective commitment to providing all students with quality, enriching learning experiences, Westwind School Division is eager to welcome a vibrant, dedicated educator to our team at WESTWIND ALTERNATE SCHOOL to teach Grades 1-3.  Our ideal candidate will demonstrate all of the qualities outlined in Alberta Education's Teaching Quality Standard and will be determined to help students achieve their learning outcomes and cultivate an inclusive environment where diversity is respected and every student feels valued, cared for, and safe.  The candidate will have a strong literacy and numeracy background in lower elementary grades.

The successful candidate will:

  • Teach Grades 1-3.
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of assessment and inclusive educational practices.
  • Understand outcomes-based assessment.
  • Demonstrate effective teaching and intervention strategies.
  • Be proficient in assessment for learning strategies to track and improve student progress.
  • Actively contribute to school and student activities and develop effective relationships within the school and community.
  • Have the ability to build positive teacher-student relationships.
  • Understand the role of a teacher in an Alternate School setting. 
  • Have strong management skills and the ability to create a conducive and engaging learning environment.
  • Display flexibility and a deep commitment to collaboration, working closely with our team, students, parents, and the community to build harmonious relationships.
  • This assignment is split between the Cardston and Raymond Campuses, with more time spent at the Raymond Campus.  

Qualifications and Requirements:

To be considered for this role, you should possess the following qualifications:

  • A strong understanding of and the ability to demonstrate the Alberta Education Teaching Quality Standard.
  • A valid Alberta Teaching Certificate.
  • Willingness to provide a current vulnerable sector check before employment begins.
