Administrative Procedure 357: WEAPONS ON SCHOOL PREMISES
Background
Under no circumstances shall students bring onto the school grounds or have in their possession on the school premises or at any school-sponsored activity a weapon, or item that could be used as a weapon, whether or not there is any intent to make use of such weapon.
Definition
A weapon is any object which could be used to purposefully or accidentally inflict harm or injury or intimidate any individual(s) in the school environment. Such items might include but not necessarily be limited to firearms, explosives, fireworks, knives, chains, martial arts manipulatives, etc.
As well, any object used in a threatening or dangerous manner may be considered as a weapon for the intent of this Administrative Procedure.
Procedures
- The Principal or the teacher shall be the judge as to whether an item is considered to be a weapon.
- School officials are authorized to confiscate and keep any weapons discovered at school.
- This Administrative Procedure is not intended to prevent qualified personnel from using such items as visual aids or instructional materials provided the Principal has authorized their use.
- Any student violating this Administrative Procedure may be suspended from school pending an investigation of the incident.
