
Westwind School Division 2025 Board of Trustees Election Information
Municipal and School Board elections occur every four years on the third Monday in October. The next election will be held on October 20, 2025. The nomination period for the 2025 municipal and school board election is open. Prospective candidates can file nominations and paperwork between January 1 and September 22, 2025, by noon.
Westwind School Division promotes and encourages its interested citizens to run for elected school board trustee office. The Division is committed to providing an environment that will give all candidates fair access to the electorate.

The Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA) states that a person is eligible to be nominated as a candidate in any election under this Act if, on nomination day, the person
(a) is eligible to vote
(b) has been a resident of the local jurisdiction and the ward, if any, for the 6 consecutive months immediately preceding nomination day and
(c) is not otherwise ineligible or disqualified

Notice of Intent Requirement
A Notice of Intent form must be:
- Sworn or affirmed at the Westwind School Division main office, Commissioner for Oaths, or Notary Public in and for Alberta.
- Completed at the time a nomination paper is requested or,
- Submitted shortly after picking up the nomination package.
A public register of individuals who have submitted a Notice of Intent will be maintained online and can be viewed on this webpage.

Candidates who seek nomination for school board trustee must complete the required nomination forms, which can be found on the Government of Alberta website in the Municipal Elections section. Nomination packages can also be picked up at the Westwind School Division office.
Below are important forms to review:
Form 4 – Nomination Paper and Candidate’s Acceptance.
At least 5 ELIGIBLE ELECTORS must sign the nomination form. These electors must be residents of the school board on the date they signed the form and eligible to vote in the election. As Westwind School Division has a ward system, the electors signing the nomination form must also be residents of the ward for which the candidate is nominated.
Form 16 - Statement of Scrutineer or Official Agent
Completing Form 16 is required to appoint a scrutineer or official agent. Although this form is optional, if you choose to appoint someone, you must submit it to the Returning Officer by election day.
Nomination papers must be handed in person to the Returning Officer at the Westwind School Division office by noon on September 22, 2025.
Candidates can have their papers sworn or affirmed at the Westwind School Division office by a Returning Officer.
