Administrative Procedure 305: SCHOOL ATTENDANCE BOUNDARIES
Background
The Division establishes attendance boundaries for each of its schools.
Procedures
- Boundaries shall be set with regard to:
- Maintaining the stability and viability of each school.
- The efficiency and continuity of bus routes and busing.
- Students are expected to attend the school in their attendance boundary.
- Boundaries will be in place before the beginning of each school year.
- Where busing is a factor, bus service will be provided to all eligible students living within the attendance boundary to the school(s) for which the boundary is set.
- In exceptional circumstances, the Division will consider providing busing to students living outside an attendance boundary, including non-resident students. Every case must be applied for each school year.
- A written parental application for a student to be bussed outside the attendance boundary must be received by the Division.
- A one-time busing fee of three hundred and fifty dollars ($350.00) per student/family must accompany the application. Should the application be denied, the fee will be refunded.
- The student will get on the bus at a pick up point already in place on the established bus route.
- There must be sufficient space on the bus to accommodate the requesting student.
- Every case must be applied for each school, no pro-rating will apply.
- Final approval is given by the Superintendent.
- If at any time the student returns to the school within their attendance boundary parents/guardians will notify the Director of Transportation.
- A written parental application for a student to be bussed outside the attendance boundary must be received by the Division.
