Administrative Procedure 131: SCHOOL DAY

Background

The school day must be structured to meet the requirements of Alberta Education and the educational needs of student(s).

Procedures

  1. The school day shall be established to ensure:
    1. A minimum of nine hundred and fifty (950) hours instructional hours per year for grades 1-9.
    2. A minimum of one thousand (1000) instructional hours per year for grades 10-12, except where otherwise approved (i.e. High School Redesign project).
    3. Provision for teacher collaboration time.
    4. Provision for embedded professional learning.
  2. The Principal shall be responsible for developing the "school timetable".
    1. The timetable will be submitted to the Superintendent for approval.
    2. The school timetable shall take into account:
      1. The requirements of the Education Act.
      2. The requirements of the Board.
      3. The age of the student(s).
      4. Busing schedules and distances.
      5. The diversity of communities.
      6. Student-centred learning opportunities.
