EPISODE 23: Jen Scout; Truth and Reconciliation

Today we are happy to welcome Jennifer Scout to the podcast to discuss Orange Shirt Day and Truth and Reconciliation in Canada. Jen is a vice-principal at Cardston Junior High School, a member of the Kainai Nation and a Westwind School Division alumni who grew up in Southern Alberta. She received her Bachelor of Education & Bachelor of Arts and her Masters of Education from the University of Lethbridge.

In this episode, Jen discusses how she became a teacher to further learning and awareness about the residential school system, what schools are doing to increase understanding, and how to improve. "There is still a lot of truth that hasn't been told," she explains. "In order to heal as a people, we need to hear those truths, our children need to hear those truths, and the wider society of Canada needs to acknowledge everything that has happened. There needs to be enough understanding so that we can reach that point of reconciliation."
