Westwind Students Shine at the 66th Annual Cardston & District Performing Arts Festival

Over 500 enthusiastic students from across Westwind School Division are stepping into the spotlight at the 66th annual Cardston & District Performing Arts Festival. This longstanding community event, founded by Bob and Blanche Russell, offers students a valuable opportunity to showcase their talents, build confidence, and gain public performance experience.
Diverse Talents on Display
Westwind students are participating in an impressive array of artistic disciplines throughout the festival, scheduled from March 10th to March 20th, 2025:
- March 10th – 13th: Musical Theatre, Choral, Vocal & Speech
- March 17th – 20th: Piano, Band, String, Brass, and Woodwind
Though the Musical Theatre Showcase was cancelled this year, excitement remains high for the Grand Concert, set for March 21st at 6:30 PM at the Carriage House Theatre, highlighting standout performances from this talented group of young artists.
Community-Wide Participation
This year's festival welcomes Westwind students from Cardston, Magrath, Raymond, Mountain View, Glenwood, and Spring Glen. Performances are hosted across several local venues, including Cardston Elementary School, Cardston High School, the United Church, West Stake Center, and the Carriage House Theatre.
A dedicated volunteer team composed of local Rotarians, adjudicator secretaries, and a five-member festival committee diligently supports these young performers behind the scenes.
Building Confidence and Skills
Carley Taylor, representing the Cardston Performing Arts Festival Committee, emphasized the festival's ongoing mission: helping children develop confidence through public performance opportunities. Positive feedback from adjudicators this year has reinforced this goal, leaving students feeling accomplished and encouraged.
Encouraging Future Participants
Festival organizers and volunteers encourage Westwind students who might be considering participation next year to embrace the experience wholeheartedly. This festival is more than just an event—it is a valuable tradition, fostering lasting skills, personal growth, and a deeper connection to the community.
