Westwind School Division Prioritizes Student Safety with National School Bus Safety Week

Justin from 'Safety On Board' captivates kindergarten students at Cardston Elementary School with a fun bus safety presentation to make learning engaging and memorable for the young audience.

In celebration of National School Bus Safety Week, Westwind School Division reinforced its commitment to student safety through interactive and informative bus safety presentations. From October 21 to 30, Justin from "Safety on Board," alongside other skilled instructors, visited all Westwind elementary schools to lead dynamic sessions on essential bus safety practices.

Transportation Supervisor Mike Cahoon, who coordinated the visits, emphasized the Division's dedication to student safety. "We're committed to ensuring our students' well-being from the moment they step on the bus to the moment they arrive home," Cahoon said. "By providing comprehensive bus safety education, we help students understand the importance of safe bus behaviour and how to respond in emergencies."

The presentations focused on vital safety practices, covering safe boarding and exiting, proper seating, and emergency evacuation procedures. A highlight of the tour was Justin's use of a hand puppet to engage kindergarten students at Cardston Elementary, bringing safety lessons to life in an entertaining yet educational way.

Westwind School Division operates 36 regular bus routes, transporting over 1,200 students daily. With buses covering more than 4,000 kilometres each day and over a million kilometres annually, the Division prioritizes bus safety education to foster a culture of awareness and responsibility and ensure student safety on every journey.
