Raymond Elementary Kicks Off ThanksGIVING Month to Support Teddy Brown

As we enter the month of October, Raymond Elementary School has launched its "ThanksGIVING" initiative, a heartfelt month-long campaign to support one of its students, Teddy Brown. Teddy, a kindergartener with a sister in Grade 3, is bravely battling a recurrence of acute lymphoblastic leukemia. After first being diagnosed in 2021 and experiencing a period of remission, his cancer returned in August, and he is currently undergoing treatment at the Children’s Hospital in Calgary.

The school community is rallying to help alleviate the financial burdens facing Teddy’s family during his long treatment process, expected to last the next 2.5 years. Raymond Elementary held a successful fundraiser called “Teddy Bear Picnic," which took place on "Teddy Tuesday," October 1, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Families were invited to bring a picnic lunch and join the school for a day of fun, featuring a complimentary sundae bar. Students were encouraged to bring their favourite teddy bear and enjoy an afternoon of community spirit and togetherness. A raffle for a giant teddy bear is also being held, with tickets available from October 1-4: $2 for one ticket and $5 for three tickets.

Donations are being accepted at the school office or via e-transfer to resfees@westwind.ab.ca. All donations and raffle ticket proceeds will go directly to the Brown family to assist with travel and living expenses.
