Cardston Elementary Students Shine at Fall Kids Market
On Friday, November 15th, Cardston Elementary School transformed its gym into a bustling marketplace for the Fall Kids Market, running from 10:30 AM to 1:00 PM. This unique event featured 28 vendors, all operated by enterprising students from grades 1 to 5, offering an impressive array of homemade items such as suckers, cookies, scrunchies, pretzels, toys, and other treats. With prices typically ranging from $1 to $5, the market drew a strong turnout from the community, creating a vibrant and supportive atmosphere.
Inspired by the School Council, the initiative focused on promoting financial literacy and entrepreneurship among students. Principal Stacy Jacobs shared, “It’s very kid-driven and easy to do." Preparation for the market was collaborative, with many students working alongside their parents to create and refine their products. Some even began crafting months in advance, like one student who spent the summer making scrunchies.
To further support their success, the staff offered students the opportunity to attend a one-hour after-school workshop on financial literacy. In this workshop, students explored pricing, marketing, and basic business concepts. The workshop saw enthusiastic participation, with 18 students attending to sharpen their entrepreneurial skills.
Six Grade 5 students on the Student Leadership Committee contributed to the event's success. This dedicated group took full ownership of the project, creating flyers, organizing vendor placements, setting up tables, and promoting the market through school announcements and advertising.
The Fall Kids Market was an incredible opportunity for students to learn and grow while engaging with their community. With plans for a Spring Kids Market, the program continues to inspire young entrepreneurs and build valuable skills for the future. Congratulations to all the participants for making this event a resounding success!
